The Islands I'd Put First on an Air Tahiti Pass

When someone asks which islands to choose on the Air Tahiti Pass, I resist the urge to list everything and instead name the few I'd build a first trip around. I've spent time on most of the Society Islands and out in the Tuamotus, and a handful keep earning their place. The pass can reach far more than you can comfortably fit, so choosing well matters more than choosing many. These are the islands I keep recommending. Here's why each one makes my short list.

Moorea, for how easy it is to love

Moorea is a short hop from Tahiti and it's where I send almost everyone first. The jagged green peaks, the lagoon and the relaxed pace make it an easy opening island, and it's well connected on the pass. I still confirm the current flight times with Air Tahiti, since even this short route can change, but it rarely complicates a plan.

Bora Bora and Huahine, two very different moods

Bora Bora earns its reputation for the lagoon and the over-water setting, and most travellers want at least a couple of nights there. I like to pair it with Huahine, which is quieter, greener and more rooted in everyday island life. Together they show two sides of the Society Islands rather than one postcard.

Rangiroa, when you want the water to be the trip

If you have the days, I add Rangiroa in the Tuamotus, where the lagoon is so large it feels like an inland sea. It's a stop for snorkelling and diving more than sightseeing, and it sits on the right version of the pass. We treat it as the change of pace that makes a Society Islands trip feel complete.

Frequently asked questions

Which single island should I prioritise?

If I could only pick one beyond Tahiti, I'd choose Moorea for how easy and rewarding it is, then add Bora Bora if you want the classic lagoon. The right mix depends on your dates and interests.

How many of these can I combine on one pass?

Often three or four, depending on the pass version and your time. I confirm exactly which islands a pass covers when booking, since coverage can change.

Are the farther islands worth the extra flying?

For some travellers, absolutely — the Tuamotus and Marquesas are special — but they take more time in the air. I only suggest them when your schedule has the room.
